David Fewer is an intellectual property and technology lawyer with more than 25 years’ experience helping clients navigate technological change. His practice spans artificial intelligence, intellectual property, litigation and appeals, and technology policy. Formerly Director and General Counsel of CIPPIC, David’s advocacy before the courts and Parliament has helped shape Canadian technology law and policy for two decades.

David advises on AI adoption, procurement, governance and regulation; intellectual property acquisition, commercialization, and enforcement; and technology disputes. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court more than 50 times, with particular experience in appellate advocacy and Norwich orders. He teaches Copyright Law and Intellectual Property Advocacy at the University of Ottawa.
